Breathwork Activation
Heart Expansion Happens with Breathwork
In breathwork practices, the heart expands metaphorically and physiologically due to the effects of deep breathing on the body. Here's how it happens:
Increased Oxygen Intake: Deep breathing increases oxygen supply to the blood, improving circulation. This boosts the function of the heart, which works more efficiently when it receives well-oxygenated blood.
Parasympathetic Activation: Slow, deep breaths activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest response), reducing stress and calming the heart. This creates a feeling of expansion or openness, often referred to in breathwork as "heart opening."
Blood Flow and Circulation: As breathing deepens, blood flow improves, and the heart expands slightly to accommodate the increased venous return (more blood flows back to the heart). This expansion enhances cardiovascular efficiency and a feeling of fullness in the chest.
Emotional Release: Breathwork often leads to emotional release, which can cause sensations of heart expansion or lightness. The emotional "heart" is tied to feelings of openness, vulnerability, and connection, often amplified during breathwork sessions.
This combination of physiological and emotional effects leads to a sensation of the heart expanding during breathwork. Please see events HERE
